Preheat the oven to 350℉. Prepare an 8’ x 8’ baking pan by either greasing it with the vegan butter or lining it with parchment paper.

Mix in a large bowl: the plant milk, apple cider vinegar, applesauce, maple syrup, olive oil, flaxseed, and vanilla. Whisk briefly with a fork and let the mixture rest for about 5 minutes to thicken slightly.

In a large mixing bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.

3. Add the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients and stir just to combine. Add the apples and walnuts and mix just until no dry ingredients are visible. Scrape the batter into the pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35 minutes.

Sieve the powdered sugar to remove any lumps. Add the cinnamon. Whisk in the melted vegan butter. Add the plant milk by teaspoonfuls until a spreading consistency is achieved. Drizzle or spread the icing over the cake.
